Holyoke Hummus Celebrates a Decade with New Wholesale Venture

Holyoke, MA – John Grossman and Dawn Cordeiro, the dynamic duo behind Holyoke Hummus, are no strangers to reinvention. After launching their food truck, The Great Garbanzo, in 2014, they quickly saw the opportunity to expand into a storefront café on High Street in Holyoke, Massachusetts, where they enjoyed four years of success. When the pandemic hit, it forced them to rethink their business model, leading them to embrace new opportunities in food production and distribution.

“We always knew we wanted to do more with our hummus, and the pandemic made us realize that we needed to pivot once again,” said Grossman. “While the café had to close, the food truck was able to continue serving our loyal customers, and it kept us going. We’ve been looking for ways to keep our business thriving year-round, and wholesale distribution was the perfect next step.”

Now, Holyoke Hummus has launched its wholesale distribution business, bringing their beloved hummus to local grocery stores and food co-ops throughout New England and New York. Starting with their classic “Hummus Flavored Hummus,” the company is expanding its reach, with a focus on local growth. “We’ve always had people asking where they can buy our hummus outside of the truck, so this is something we’ve wanted to do for a while,” said Cordeiro.

Their new wholesale venture is backed by partnerships with food distributors Food Connects and Marty’s Local. The partnership allows Holyoke Hummus to reach more customers without having to manage the logistics of distribution themselves.

Holyoke Hummus remains an iconic presence at local food-truck events, where Grossman and Cordeiro serve up their signature falafel sandwiches, hummus with pita chips, and sides such as stuffed grape leaves and fried Brussels sprouts. The couple’s focus on quality food and their commitment to community has made them a trusted part of the Pioneer Valley’s culinary landscape.

With their new wholesale venture, a loyal following, and a strong sense of community, Holyoke Hummus is poised for continued growth as they embark on the next chapter of their journey.
